In ProVide, administrators can create virtual folders and mark them as secret folders.
Each secret folder has its own unique password, set by the administrator. This password is completely separate from all other passwords in the ProVide.
Creating a Secret Folder #
To create a Secret Folder do the following:
- Log into the Administration interface
- Open Users or Groups
- Select a User or Group or create a new one.
- Go to Home Directory
- Click New Folder
- Enter Folder Name
- Enable Secret Folder
- Enter the Password required to enter the folder.
- Add a resource path to the folder containing the folders and files it should contain.
- Set the permissions you want the user to have once they entered the password.
Accessing a Secret Folder #
You can identify that a folder is secret by the lock icon shown on the folder.
When a user logs in with their regular account and tries to access a secret folder, they will be prompted to enter the folder-specific password.
You know that a folder is unlocked by looking at the unlocked lock icon
When the user logs out, the secret folder is locked again. The next time the user logs in, the password must be re-entered to access the folder.
Sharing and Collaboration #
Secret folders cannot be used for collaboration, however Share and Receive are supported.
Anyone who accesses a secret folder through a Share or Receive link will not be prompted for the secret folder password.
If a Share or Receive link is set to private, the password defined when creating the link is the only password required to access the link.
