ProVide Gateway

Secure, Simple Reverse Proxy for Windows and Linux

ProVide Gateway is a secure reverse proxy that sits in front of your ProVide Server. It terminates connections safely in your DMZ and never stores any data there, so you can provide large files to and from businesses and consumers with a small resource footprint and no hassle.

Why put a reverse proxy in front of your file server?

Place ProVide Gateway in your DMZ and keep your ProVide Server unexposed on the internal network. Gateway forms a secure connection between the two and accepts only the traffic you allow, so users reach your files without you opening inbound ports to the server itself.

How does ProVide Gateway work?

Gateway creates a secure tunnel between ProVide on your internal network and the internet-facing Gateway in your DMZ. It routes SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS traffic to ProVide, blocks everything else, and lets you manage each route with a single button.

Linux or Windows or Both?

Gateway runs on both Windows (Server 2016/2019) and Linux. Ubuntu Server 16 or later is officially supported, and it also runs on CentOS, SUSE, and Debian. Gateway is server software, so it installs on Windows and Linux, not on macOS. Mac users can still connect to your files as clients over SFTP and HTTPS as usual.

How do you set up ProVide Gateway?

On Windows, setup is a simple click-based install. On Linux, you run an executable or register it as a service. You download the installer and activate the license key from inside the ProVide administration interface, then connect Gateway and create your SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS routes, each one enabled or disabled with a button.

What does ProVide Gateway do?

Gateway is built for organizations that treat security as non-negotiable. It lets the outside world reach your files through the DMZ while your ProVide Server stays isolated on the internal network. Every connection is terminated safely in the DMZ, and no data is ever stored there, so you get controlled external access without exposing the server that holds your data.

How to get ProVide Gateway

ProVide Gateway is not a standalone product. It routes traffic to a running ProVide Server, so you need ProVide first, either a trial or an active license. You download the Gateway installer and activate its license key from inside the ProVide administration interface, not from this page. The Gateway trial runs for 30 days and is started from inside ProVide, not here.

Once ProVide is running, open the admin area, download and install Gateway for Windows or Linux, then connect it and enter the license key in the same place. From there you create your SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS routes and turn each one on or off with a single button.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes. ProVide Gateway is not a standalone product, so you need a running ProVide Server before you can try it, either a trial or an active license. Gateway is a reverse proxy that sits in front of your ProVide Server and routes SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS traffic to it through your DMZ. Without a ProVide instance behind it, Gateway has nothing to protect or forward to. You do not download or activate Gateway from the website. Both the installer and the license key are handled from inside the ProVide administration interface, so make sure ProVide is running first, then add Gateway from there.

You download ProVide Gateway from inside the ProVide administration interface, not from the website. You need a running ProVide Server first, either a trial or an active license, because Gateway runs in front of ProVide and is managed from the same admin area. Once ProVide is running, open the admin area, download the Gateway installer for Windows or Linux, and install it. You then connect Gateway to your ProVide Server and activate its license key in the same place.

The Gateway trial runs for 30 days, and you start it from inside the ProVide administration interface, not from the website or the Gateway machine. You need ProVide running first, either a trial or an active license. You then download and install Gateway, connect it to your ProVide Server, and activate the trial in the admin area, where you manage the rest of your ProVide setup.

You activate ProVide Gateway by entering its license key inside the ProVide administration interface, not on the Gateway machine itself. After you download and install Gateway and connect it to your ProVide Server, you enter the key in the admin area where you manage the rest of your setup. From there you create your SFTP, HTTP, and HTTPS routes and turn each one on or off with a single button. Gateway terminates connections safely in your DMZ and never stores any data there.

ProVide Gateway runs on both Windows and Linux. On Windows, Server 2016 and 2019 are supported. On Linux, Ubuntu Server 16 or later is officially supported, and Gateway is also known to run on CentOS, SUSE, and Debian. It has a small resource footprint, so it does not need a heavy machine to sit in your DMZ in front of your ProVide Server.

No. ProVide Gateway is server software and is compiled for Windows and Linux only, not for macOS, which is not built to run as a server environment the way Linux and Windows are. This does not affect Mac users: they can connect to your files as clients over SFTP and HTTPS just like any other device. The Gateway service itself runs on a Windows or Linux machine in your DMZ, in front of your ProVide Server.
