ProVide’s Speed Scheduler lets administrators throttle upload and download speed limits using prioritized rule sets and time constraints. In other words, you decide how much bandwidth ProVide may use, and when, so large transfers don’t overwhelm your connection at the times it matters. You can create multiple prioritized rules to fine-tune limits for different periods, and rules can be set to ignore local network access, so speed limits apply to internet traffic without slowing transfers on your LAN.
This means you don’t have to shut ProVide down to protect your bandwidth. Whether it’s keeping a connection responsive during business hours or avoiding a slow, lagging evening because a massive upload is running, you schedule server activity to fit around when you actually need the bandwidth, letting heavy transfers run during idle time.
Where to configure it #
You configure the Speed Scheduler in the Connection settings of the ProVide administration interface. Log in to the web-based admin interface with an account that has admin privileges, then click Connection settings in the top menu.
How the rules work #
Speed Scheduler is rule-based and prioritized, so you can layer several rules and ProVide applies them in order:
- Set separate upload and download speed limits.
- Apply each rule to specific times, so bandwidth is limited when you need it and freed up when you don’t.
- Optionally exempt local network traffic, so LAN transfers stay at full speed regardless of the limits placed on internet traffic.
- Use priority to control which rule wins when more than one could apply.
