TFTP: Trivial File Transfer Protocol

Table of Contents

TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) is used for low-level firmware updates, network booting, and, increasingly, managing the new wave of IoT devices. With ProVide, you can create groups for different areas to control which files are distributed to which devices, and where those files end up in your file system.

TFTP is a very basic, UDP-based protocol that generally includes no login or access control. Its simple design and low performance footprint make it well suited to firmware updates, network booting, and similar tasks.

How ProVide extends TFTP #

Beyond the standard TFTP functionality, ProVide takes it further by allowing multiple TFTP accounts separated by source IP and netmask. By distinguishing the source, ProVide lets you create different account setups, each with its own files and its own destination for uploads. For example, you can create groups for different areas to manage exactly which files reach certain devices and where they’re stored.

TFTP can be enabled in all versions of ProVide and supports both user and group management, based on source.
