A server is a device or computer program that provides services to other programs and their users. Its primary job is to offer services, such as file transfer, storage, or application hosting, to the computers and users that connect to it.

Types of server #
There are three main types, all serving the same purpose but differing in how they’re implemented and deployed:

- Virtual servers: virtualized instances that emulate a physical server, so multiple virtual servers can run on one physical machine.
- Software servers: programs that perform server functions, running on standard hardware or in virtualized environments.
